ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the issue to see how good public opinion is at making the government accountable. It shows what needs to be done to improve the situation. Several factors are responsible for this situation. These are: the literacy rate is very low; the level of social awareness is also low; people suffer through lack of political consciousness; and they suffer through an inability to express their political needs effectively and equally. The overall effect is a lack of sound public opinion on every aspect of government including the means to hold government accountable. People need to have education first in order to challenge the accountability of government. The outcome of education will be that the government realises that it has to be accountable. Non-governmental sources also need to know what specialists are actually saying on governmental policies. Besides, a government needs some help to communicate with the whole of Bangladesh society.
