ABSTRACT

In the following chapter, the problem of ethics confronting the administrator will be more closely investigated. Ethics is a philosophical discipline which has its origins in Greek philosophy. It is first and foremost Aristotle who gave the discipline a name. Ethics comes from the Greek word ethos which means custom. Custom in this context refers broadly to the customary norms in a society which are implemented or realized without questioning. Ethics deals with considerations of situations where custom has lost its direct relevance or validity, and where how to act becomes an open question. Ethics thus deals with the reflective relationship of the setting of norms.
