ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the analysis of the questionnaire-based survey data collected in Phase II of the empirical research. It discusses the results of the model validation against empirical data. The chapter identifies the specific determinants of the willingness of organisations in South Africa to share spatial data. In order to conduct the analysis, the model of the willingness of organisations to engage in spatial data sharing is validated using the empirical data. The overriding goal of the study is to consider how spatial data sharing can be fostered. It explains how to address the low 'motivation to comply'. The chapter shows that the intention of key individuals within organisations to engage in spatial data sharing can be predicted from corresponding measures of 'attitude' towards spatial data sharing and 'social pressure' from important referents to engage in spatial data sharing, although somewhat greater emphasis was placed the 'social pressure' component.
