ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the usefulness and applicability of the model in the light of broader theoretical considerations and for policy. It re-states the research questions and discusses them in the light of the findings. The chapter reflects on the specific methods used to implement this theoretical approach and considers alternative approaches. It points towards new areas of research. The research has explored the determinants of the willingness of organisations to engage in spatial data sharing across organisational boundaries. The chapter outlines the contributions of the model to the understanding of the diffusion of the Geographic Information Systems technological innovation. It considers how the study departs from previous research by reflecting on the specific methods used to implement the theoretical approach. The chapter argues that the Theory of Reasoned Action, which includes only the 'attitude' and the 'social pressure' constructs, would have sufficed to explain spatial data sharing behaviour.
