ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses an in-depth, five-part longitudinal study of one of the entrepreneurship training programmes. Of particular importance in assessing the impact of entrepreneurship programmes is ensuring the validity of the methodology adopted. Suggestions were also sought from the comparator group for improving their particular entrepreneurship programme. The particular programme chosen as the core focus of the study, can be described in I. Jamieson's terms as 'education for enterprise' a programme that focuses on the preparation of aspiring entrepreneurs for a career in self-employment with the specific objective of encouraging participants to set-up and run their own business. The participants in the comparator group were also asked whether they felt their confidence in their entrepreneurial ability had changed as a result of the programme. The findings from five-part longitudinal study have helped to highlight the benefits derived by the programme participants, as well as the new skills and knowledge they gained.
