ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the paths that diaries take from author to reader, and how these paths can influence the form, content, and meaning of each diary. It provides an overview of the debates surrounding the archive and their relevance to the study of diaries. It then offers frameworks for readers exploring original diary manuscripts and their adaptation into print and digital editions. This chapter includes Essential Question #2: Is the diary a feminine genre?
