ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at a number of different aspects of e-Human Resource (HR): what e-HR is, what its benefits are, what challenges it will present, and how to get the best out of e-HR. E-HR technologies have the potential to revolutionise processes carried out within businesses. HR Departments have traditionally been seen as reactive and a drain on a business rather than as critical to business success. E-HR can help HR to take on a more strategic role by reducing the time needed for administration thereby freeing staff to take on the crucial strategic role, and by providing information for strategic decision-making. Improving access to information does more than support the empowerment of people at lower levels in the organisation, it also increases the possibilities for learning. One of the principal aims of e-HR implementation is to streamline processes and reduce the amount of routine administrative work carried out across the organisation in general and by the HR Department specifically.
