ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at improving the flow of information for softer, less clearly defined purposes - for example, for general business communications, collaborative processes and training. It covers a number of different topics, all of which are linked by the fact that they are means by which information can be circulated within an organisation. These include: making information available on the intranet, what knowledge management means in the context of e-HR systems, managing and delivering formal learning opportunities, managing documents, carrying out organisational surveys, and improving collaboration. The chapter also discusses Shareable Content Object Reference Model, Aviation Industry computer-based training Committee and other e-learning standards in more detail. The ability to take part in collaborative events without moving from the desktop is a major attraction of online collaborative tools. People can attend meetings and take part in classroom training or listen to presentations without having to spend time travelling.
