ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the role and value of pupils' collecting examples of their work. These can serve to illustrate their progress and help pupils and teachers survey, summarise and report their achievements. Teachers can teach in such a way that their pupils keep examples of what they do, including commentaries and reflections. Seeing where they have come from can help them think about where they would like to take their activities and learning. This chapter also explores how to keep track of pupils' achievements help them and also teachers. Over time, pupils can select and annotate examples of their work as a record of their experiences and achievements. Keeping digital, paper-based and physical testimony to their efforts assists ongoing learning and occasions when reports and decisions about next steps in education are wanted. Comments on pupils' work can identify: areas of learning in which they have made notable progress; and notable achievements in personal terms and attainments in academic terms.
