ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes our book by considering some of the complexities and challenges involved with the implementation of best practice approaches to reporting stories about Muslims in newsrooms and how it is taught in universities. It suggests ways to overcome some of these complexities and challenges. We conclude on a positive note, suggesting that it may be possible for journalists, journalism educators and students outside of Australia to draw on some of the Reporting Islam Project resources to inform their reportage of stories about Muslims. It may also be possible for the project to be replicated or adapted by news media in other Western countries where journalists experience similar problems to those outlined in our book.
