ABSTRACT

This chapter explores three approaches that could assist journalists shift their coverage of stories involving Islam and Muslims from conflict-driven frames. While all three approaches are still developing theoretically, peace journalism, constructive journalism and solutions journalism have been championed by journalists for journalists. They offer different paths to transforming the way stories about Islam and Muslims are researched and constructed. What unites the three different approaches is that they are underpinned by the norms of good journalism and they all challenge the ‘if it bleeds it leads’ mantra. All are focused on changing narratives about serious social topics.
