ABSTRACT
On the world maps of the Peters Projection, Europe appears as a small, far northem periphery of peninsulae and islands, out on the western fringe of the huge Asian land mass, separated by the narrow Mediterranean waterway from the big central continent of Africa, and by the wide Atlantic Ocean from the impressive semicontinent of North America. In other words, Europe here looks very much like the Nordic countries on a standard European map, with the qualification that Scandinavia normally looks larger on these. A Scandinavian scenario, I am going to argue, is in the long run one of the most attractive futures left to an irreversibly ex-imperial continent.
