ABSTRACT
The concept of inborn knowledge is central, of course, in Socratic method and this notion already sets Socratic Counseling Theory apart. In short, the Socratic method of Counseling is a method in which counselors serve as midwives to help their clients live the lives they want to live through extracting knowledge that clients already have within themselves. Because people differentiate themselves from the rest of the living world by the belief that they are rational beings, they exceed the animal level of being in the world. Since the rational dimension is under the control of the moral dimension, human morality establishes goals. Rationality only ascertains ways to realize those goals. In short, the rational dimension is a tool for the moral dimension since acts that are taken without reason are meaningless and often useless. Even though moral values and principles are inscribed in the mind of each person, social and historical circumstances shape personal moral systems.
