ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 holds the main theoretical contribution of the book and establishes several proposals to categorize and enrich the literature on environmental security. The different main interpretations of environmental security are analysed by revealing their potential and risks in the context of the Anthropocene. Among other contributions, an analytical concept, a political concept, a scientized concept and a normative concept of environmental security are distinguished. The different elaborated schemes are then proposed into an original framework of analysis, termed: the Critical Environmental Security Studies (CESS).
