ABSTRACT

This introduction paints the fundamentals of the domestic scene, basic domestic and European principles of the UK's competition regime. It presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book moves on from planning to competition law. Then, it turns to a resume of the key principles of the EC law. The book starts with a review of the domestic law up to the Competition Act 1998, and follows this with an account of the basic thrust of the new Act. There was the fact that parts of the 'old' law are retained and not Europeanised, and the further fact that there was a need to adopt an order which accommodated and reflected the gradual flow of one regime into another. The concentration is on certain further major issues.
