ABSTRACT

This chapter examines aspects of the physical environment, social and economic development in the Okwangwo Division of the Cross River National Park. It describes the salient physical attributes of the Division with particular reference to the topography and geomorphology, geology, hydrology and drainage as well as soils. The chapter also reviews the ecology of the Division, especially the natural vegetation and wildlife resources. From the development perspective, the ethnography, population characteristics, local social and political administration, land tenure system and traditional land use and economy of the Division are examined.
