ABSTRACT

Categories delimiting regular versus irregular immigration and work statuses, migrant versus citizen, aid a particular constitution of the nation-state and citizenship, which facilitates the circulation of capital, embedding processes of neoliberalisation. The fixation on migration and its ostensible threat to employment and labour market opportunities defies evidence and experience. Ecotechnics relating to labour migration is therefore not a synonym for neoliberalism and processes of neoliberalisation. Ecotechnics concerns relationality: how singularities exist with the plural. Ecotechnics is happening, inclusive of all beings singular plural; there is no external body or force acting upon beings. The ecotechnics of labour migration, or seeing labour migration as ecotechnical, is a possibility of openness: diverse, plural, unknown. Ecotechnics is a way of seeing what is happening in the global circulation of capital and of sense: the global circulation of sense. The claim to globality, to the existence of a ‘global’ or ‘globalised’ world, is nevertheless ecotechnical.
