ABSTRACT
The history of the proletarian revolution in Russia during the last seven years, instead of speaking in favour of the theory, speaks against it. The theory cannot be accepted as a scheme for the development of the world revolution; it conflicts with the facts we have before our very eyes. The victory of socialism in one country is not an end in itself; it must be looked upon as a support, as a means for hastening the proletarian victory in every other land. The worldwide significance of the October revolution lies not only in the fact that it was the first step taken by any country whatsoever to shatter imperialism, that it brought into being the first little island of socialism in the ocean of imperialism, but likewise in the fact that the October revolution is the first stage in the world revolution and has set up a powerful base whence the world revolution can continue to develop.
