ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to develop a planetary consciousness based on liberty, equality and fraternity. Evelin Lindner is co-founder of the research network Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies and the Journal of Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies. Lindner has united human dignity and environmental responsibility in the "Dignity Economy", which is her contribution to the efforts to create a better world. Lindner points out that ecological sustainability and social cohesion require an increased focus on human dignity, and can only be implemented if we change our current mind-set, which is characterized by fragmentation, competition and humiliation, toward a mind-set of integration, cooperation and humility. Lindner argues for the necessity of a profound paradigm shift, not from one rigid paradigm to another, but in the direction of increased diversity. The concepts of dignity and humiliation are central to Lindner's work.
