ABSTRACT
This chapter has two primary functions. The first is to identify the location of the research project and outline the configuration of the NHS in the area. Much of the data for this task was taken from a health authority document named West Sussex Health: Reference Atlas 1994/95, although some use was made of other material, most notably the business plans of local NHS trusts. The second purpose is to clarify the research methodology.
