ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on exploring and understanding children's creativity, overcoming misunderstandings and creative blocks, teaching creatively and creative learning, the role of the 'creative adult' and developing creative practices in 'being creative'. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop once we reach adulthood; it continues, as creativity fades because it is not used. For most of what we do in our day-to-day lives, creativity is not really required, and therefore is not thought of. When one finally pops their head out of the trap of adulthood to understand creativity and its inherent role in their teaching, they come face to face with mental blocks or, as Constantinides describes them, 'creative blocks'. Creative adults, together with teaching creatively, are key for fostering creativity in young children and their learning. When observing good or outstanding adults in settings, it is evident that they understand their specialism of early years education. Trust in their creative instincts and exciting ideas.
