ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the three studies from which the book is drawn: (1) a one-year study of preschool children’s individual and collective reasoning about hypothetical bystander dilemmas; (2) a two-year study of 3rd and 4th grade children’s individual reasoning about bystander dilemmas and their participation in deliberative dialogue with their peers; (3) a one-year study of 6th graders’ individual and collective thinking about the issue of food insecurity as it impacts their school and local community.
