ABSTRACT
This chapter examines academic postfeminism as the unstated theoretical justification of Islamic feminism. It analyzes the drawbacks of postfeminist theory, particularly its unbridled culturalist assumptions and its insufficient attention to power as constraint. It further explores the specific ways in which unstated postfeminist theory influences knowledge of women in the Middle East and North Africa.
