ABSTRACT

The globalization of Alibaba's business ecosystem has already started. In Chapter 6, we explore how Alibaba builds a global business ecosystem to serve two billion consumers and millions of companies to sell – and buy global. We conclude that Alibaba's global strategy includes import/export ecommerce, greenfield, investment and acquisition and partnerships. Alibaba follows a hybrid global strategy with a variety of motives, ranging from scale to market and technology. Alibaba's global footprint now includes six subsidiaries, over 40 overseas investments, cross border ecommerce and international payment (Alipay) and cloud data (Alibaba Cloud) services.
