ABSTRACT

Within the general framework of research into personality characteristics, one particular focus has been on the manner in which various aspects of work related behaviour, motivation, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction can be linked to differences in the innate needs of individuals. In this chapter, the authors attempts to overcome the difficulties by setting out the findings of the studies under a number of headings which we see as encapsulating the main themes which have been of interest to researchers. The researchers hypothesised that men would be evaluated as more effective than women when the managerial style was masculine and less effective when the managerial style was feminine. One focus of research interest has been on links between the extent and nature of prior educational experience and successful career development. In the UK context, there has been little published research on the link between prior educational experience and subsequent career achievement.
