ABSTRACT

Live-streaming is all about engagement and interactivity, sharing and recommending, and the more our viewers do this with our content, the more valuable our video becomes. This chapter looks at each of these features in turn. It looks mainly at Facebook Live and Twitter Go Live/Periscope, although other apps are similar. Having people share our show is the single most effective way to extend our network. To share a live-video, viewers simply retweet the post it appears in. If our viewers enjoy the show we are presenting, encourage them to follow us. Make a point to consider following people back, especially if they are regular viewers and 'power users': it's etiquette and encourages engagement. As soon as we go live, those who have chosen to do so will get a notification and will be able to join and engage in the conversation. This is a greater advantage to the broadcaster and the viewer than watching a replay of the show.
