ABSTRACT

Acritical aspect of human resource management is avoiding illegal employment discrimination. Employment discrimination may occur in many different forms and contexts. This chapter explores the legal issues involved in hiring, promotion, and termination decisions based illegally on race, sex, religion, age, or disability. Also covered here are compensation discrimination in salary arrangements and decisions regarding employee leave. Other forms of illegal employment discrimination, such as harassment and discriminatory treatment based on different forms of employee expression, are discussed in Chapter 7.
