ABSTRACT

This chapter includes a rationale for the use of dramatherapy with people with BPD, making specific reference to the 2015 Quality Standard from NICE (QS88) and including a definition and brief history of dramatherapy. The methods used by thirteen dramatherapists with experience of working in the field are also considered, alongside the approach the author has developed and refined for women with BPD: a person-centred, transpersonal method, influenced by Jung (1968) and Rowan (1990) – encompassing dramatic rituals, projective techniques and play. The potential for dramatherapy to support both male and female clients with BPD in relation to attachment and trauma is also considered and the importance of evaluation and evidence discussed.
