ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter reveals that whilst many things can support the recovery of people with BPD, each must pursue his or her own journey to discover what genuinely helps. The first hurdle may be finding the courage to leave the familiarity of emotional and physical suffering, which could throw people into a temporary state of loss and confusion, their identity having fused with their pain. The suggestion is that with belief, hope and courage, individuals can find new meaning in their lives, the antithesis to the ambivalence between life and death described in Chapter 7. On their therapeutic journey, the creative energy of dramatherapy has the potential to empower and nurture them, through individual or supportive group therapy.
