ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines a four-stage process for implementing CBNRM. It provides an overview and checklists for assessing if CBNRM is viable in terms of economics and governance, for how to conduct a situation analysis, and for implementing the main components of a CBNRM programme – governance, economy, and natural resource management. It cannot cover the practicalities in full detail, but emphasises how to approach them through adaptive management, and provides a brief description of capacity building in this context.
