ABSTRACT
Earlier chapters have outlined the general or popular picture of the peripheral/rural. Today this remains as a legacy of the past, prolongated or promoted, partly through misconceptions, into the future. Some or many of these aspects have been disputed, some questioned within the framework of theoretical limitations or unsuitability, others on the basis of methodological limitations and a combination of misdirection and a lack of attention or scrutiny. Through time, processes and therefore structures are changing. The discussion here is promoted in order to reframe a situation where policies and policy measures should be contemplated and evaluated with an alternate kind of analytical approach.
