ABSTRACT

Children develop at their own rates, and in their own ways. These statements and their order should not be taken as necessary steps or checklists for individual children. There are many opportunities for counting and ordering in the routines of the school day, from taking the register, to collecting dinner money, to organising groups of learners. Children can develop a story based on their play. Children work as a group to place all the objects in the appropriate place on the grid. Encourage turn taking and discussion of where to place the objects. Encourage children to go outside or walk around the classroom to find other objects that they can place in the grid. The children should engage in free play on the trikes and scooters giving each other instructions about where to cycle to. Children can collect objects which they place in the appropriate trays.
