ABSTRACT

The emotional well-being as teachers is an important factor in preventing burnout. Therefore, we need to have an understanding of our emotional makeup. According to Garrett, Sadker, and Sadker, "If teachers are to create an environment that is conducive to personal growth, they must first explore their own feelings about themselves and their students." Teaching is a profession where our emotions run strong. How we deal with those emotions has a profound impact on our job satisfaction. For us to remain fulfilled in our careers we need to look for ways to build upon those emotions that make us stronger and let go of those that drag us down. According to Norman Cousins in The Healing Heart, laughter not only aids healing in the body but also tends to block deep feelings of apprehension and panic.
