ABSTRACT
Introduction oetry, elusive and lyrical, is the most powerful of all literature written for children. Its compact format requires that the language be structured and intense to evoke strong feelings and responses from young
listeners. The beauty of poetry is that each listener’s response is individual. As with adults, each child has his or her own interpretation of the poem at hand.
