ABSTRACT
Informational books can promote scientific and health literacy, aesthetic literacy, and understanding of many different cultures and people within all professions and walks of life. These books will support curricula throughout a child's school day. Most of what adults read is informational text. B. C. Hoyt assures teachers that they can use informational texts for two goals simultaneously, teaching content knowledge and teaching reading strategies. Yet another reason to use informational books in the content area classroom is that teacher tends to remember things they learn by way of story, and many nonfiction books contain true and fascinating stories relative to their curricular content. Informational trade books can be used effectively to help students understand multiple points of view. Based on information from the book, create an informational graphic of teacher's choice, using the computer with a "draw" or "paint" option.
