ABSTRACT
I n this chapter you will learn about the importance of home and community influences on students’ language arts abilities. Teachers need to understand the significance of caregiver-child interaction, the influence of the home, the role of play, and the influence of the community if they are to work with students as individuals. This chapter emphasizes the importance of teachers embracing all diverse learners. The learners highlighted in this chapter are students who are culturally diverse, have various language backgrounds, and have various abilities and disabilities, including giftedness.
