ABSTRACT

T eachers bring many different perspectives to teaching (see Chapter 1 for a review). Some convey specific skills to their students, while others promote a broad-based love of knowledge in their students. Many teachers today use a balanced or comprehensive approach in the sense that they teach skills and are concerned about improving their students’ test scores, but at the same time, they respect their students’ interests and provide them with meaningful learning choices. No matter what their perspective, all good teachers plan for effective instruction.
