ABSTRACT

This chapter provides examples of strategic development, collaboration or partnerships, structural and service support, and human resources to intentionally integrate student affairs work with internationalization efforts. Many aspects of internationalization may already be present and operating within an institution or division of student affairs, and collaborative programs and services likely already span multiple areas to support diversity and multiculturalism. A part of organizational structure and capacity building relates to the specific student support services and activities that fall under specific divisions and reporting structures. The integrated internationalization approach places students as the beneficiaries to the process and the purpose of engaging in internationalization efforts to achieve wider goals of global citizenship not padding institutional budgets. The educational focus of the lounges is in alignment with the university's Connecting Globally strategy. The University of California, Berkeley, has developed a robust on-boarding process, taking place over time, at multiple levels within their organization.
