ABSTRACT

The risks and rewards of investing in distribution as opposed to production are analyzed in this chapter. A case study on a specialty distribution company, Apparition, which the author advised on, is presented in detail. Other distribution strategies are also discussed, including VOD. The attractiveness of the foreign sales business is analyzed. From the investor’s point of view, the need to audit distributors on your films is emphasized. Finally, the chapter points out the advantages of having an ongoing relationship with one studio distributor.
