ABSTRACT
On the death of Queen Victoria in January 1901, the Prince of Wales succeeded her as Edward VII. During the final year of her reign, 1900, England had become engrossed with the continuing Boer War, begun in 1899. Of other significant events during 1900, two are prominent: the formation of the Labour Representative Committee, soon to be called the Labour Party; and the 'Khaki election' in October which saw the Conservatives re-elected, led by Lord Salisbury.
