ABSTRACT

Preparation for a radio broadcasting career can be enhanced by taking advantage of opportunities available exclusively to students in secondary and higher education. High School Radio Day and College Radio Day are two annual events that actively promote student involvement with radio throughout the year. Recent college graduates who already have achieved professional distinction in station advertising sales, programming, engineering, and promotion share their success stories and offer tips for aspiring broadcasters. Leaders of four national organizations for students of radio—the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI), the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS), and the National Broadcasting Society (NBS)—discuss the benefits of membership and explain how active involvement can lead to career success.
