ABSTRACT

Millennials, particularly in the first years after they graduate from college, start jobs and expect that they won't stay past five years—and sometimes only two or three years. Today, most businesses have three generations—Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennials—working side by side, and many have four, with millions of people seventy-two and older still in the workplace, giving the working population an age range from sixteen to eighty-something. The purpose of the company, the team, and the position are critical factors for Millennials considering different positions. A company's willingness to create an expectation of happiness, high performance, and conflict resolution, and its encouragement of the attitude that it is possible to fix issues, is critical to creating a happy workplace. The push for work–life balance has been a constant theme for the American workforce over the last twenty years, going hand in hand with the push for gender pay equity.
