ABSTRACT
If you are going to be a performer, you must have something to do, something to perform. This is called your material. Your material may be self-generated, original, and therefore self-owned, or it may be written by others, and they may own it. If others own the material, you or the company you work for would pay a fee to use it. Broadly speaking, material for performers is mainly news and information or entertainment. Of course, news can be entertaining at times, and entertainment can be newsworthy or informative at times; television shows such as Entertainment Tonight, Today, and CBS This Morning combine news and entertainment. However, most material is written as strictly news or as entertainment.
