ABSTRACT

Most people can name the best boss and the worst boss they have experienced at work. It’s too easy to talk about the worst boss, there are lists and comedy routines about them that are aired every day. Let’s explore the good bosses; in fact, let’s explore the bosses we love—they are less easy to pin down. There are only three best bosses:

The boss who held you to a higher standard. This is the boss who said, “It’s not good enough.” This is the boss who helped you get that promotion and made you better.

The boss who gave you a chance. This is the boss who threw you into the deep end of the pool because this boss knew you could swim before you knew it. This is the boss who made you realize you can do a lot more than you thought.

The boss who taught you how to be a boss. This is the boss we want to be someday.

Bosses will come in and out of our careers. The good ones are like the teachers one never forgets. Aspire to be the best boss in someone’s career.
