ABSTRACT

“It’s like heroin,” is a phrase that is now part of the organizational lexicon. The reference is not about drugs, although that is possible. The phrase refers to any number of work and tech activities that have become addictions. Anything with a screen is now an addiction, but addictions are more pervasive than just the screens. Other current addictions include conference calls, meetings, 1000-calorie coffee drinks every day at 9:00 a.m., taking work home, texting, and e-mails.
