ABSTRACT

Rare is the day when we complete a difficult project. It is not often that we say we had a truly great day at work. Most days are not great and not terrible. High highs and low lows are probably rare. Most days are in the middle. That is, just another day. But days are not “just” days. Time is finite, and we should try to derive at least a little satisfaction each day. The best way to do that is to convert nebulous defeats into ambiguous victories. A nebulous defeat is all the glancing blows that fill our day and can ruin it. Things like an e-mail with a tone that is slightly offensive or a meeting that was a big waste of time. If you let all the nebulous defeats pile up and get to you, life will be miserable.
