ABSTRACT

Half the people I know are looking for a new job. The other half are worried about their job. The third half like their jobs but are “open” to new opportunities. In this world where everyone is sort of career trolling, words matter. My friends go to job-search sites and have lots of meetings at the local coffee pub discussing words that will help their careers, like “maximized” and “strategized.” They spend hours fretting over the words they hear from employers and the words that will best capture their experience and hopes and dreams. It’s not easy to be so worried about words.
