ABSTRACT

The 12-minute run test is a field test designed to predict maximal oxygen consumption rate (VO2max) by measuring the distance completed in 12 minutes of running (or walking). Although walking is allowed during this test, the objective is to cover as much distance as possible in 12 minutes. A faster pace (speed) during the test will result in a greater distance covered, and, therefore, a higher predicted VO2 max. After the test is complete and the distance is recorded, it is used in the following regression equation2 to predict VO2 max:
