ABSTRACT

O ur senses are constantly bombarded with information from both internal and external sources (sensory information or input). Before any of that information can potentially be used to assist a learner in selecting an appropriate response for a given situation, it must fi rst be actively processed. The recognition and interpretation of sensory stimuli-or, said another way, the process by which meaning is attached to sensory information-is known as perception. Two approaches explaining the nature of perception are prevalent today.
