ABSTRACT

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that medical supervision is not necessary during exercise for healthy individuals (children, adolescents, men <45 years of age, and women <55 years of age) who have no symptoms or known presence of heart disease or major coronary risk factors.1 Therefore, the primary purpose of preparticipation health screening is to identify those individuals who should be excluded from exercise due to medical contraindications.
